Sisters Are Forever Friends

Although a mother is special in oh so many ways, there are other people to be celebrated this Mother’s Day. Think of grandma, aunt, sister, friend. Let them know how special you know they are.

Deb Jones did just that last Christmas. With a simple scrap page, she showed her sisters exactly how she felt about them.

By Deb Jones

For Christmas this past year I made tiles for both of my sisters, using the 12×12 scrapbook page as my palette. My sisters are both very special to me; one is a year older, the other five years younger. We are very close, but rarely see each other as we live in different parts of the country.

I wanted to capture our lives together, so I made two different tiles, one as babies, the other as adults. We’re very different from each other, but love to be together. So I chose the saying “Sisters are different flowers from the same garden” for the baby pictures.  I used the saying “Sisters are forever friends” for our adult pictures because it said in one sentence all of the sentiment I feel for my sisters.

The tiles turned out beautiful; decoupaging the scrapbook page onto tiles was very fast and easy. I bought small gold tripod stands to sit the tiles on. My sisters loved them.

Adding Depth To Your Canvas

To add extra depth and dimension to a canvas project of any size, use pre-shadowed art. Many of the new art collections have photo frames and other elements with shadows already applied. Find them by using the Studio art search. By searching for “frame” or “ribbon” you will see the difference of gray around those that already have shadows applied.

Collections that contain shadowed frames include Flower Girl, Cherry Blossoms, Basic Cookbook Art, Not Guilty Mini, and Green Romance.  Find them at http://MyStoryBookLady.com

Digital Coasters

coasters2-2.jpg
It’s the digital scrapper and home crafter's perfect project. And with MyStoryBookLady.com, this project has never been easier. It’s time to get rid of those old, gross-looking coasters and replace them with personalized ones. You can include your living room’s color scheme and even your family photos.
Here’s what you need:
  • Blank, wood (or another material if desired) coasters – You can get these from a craft store. For this project I used 3×4 inch coasters with rounded corners from Robert’s Craft online.
  • Scrap page (for this project I used a 12×12 scrap page)
  • Mod Podge
  • Spray sealant
  • Wood/craft paint (any color)

Get started:
    1. Design your coasters in Studio on a scrap page (whatever size works best to fit all your coasters on a page or two).
    2. Paint the bottom and sides of your wooden coasters. You may also paint the top of the coasters if you are planning on not covering the entire surface with your digital-designed coasters.
    3. Once you have your printed scrap page, cut the digital-designed coasters out.
    4. Using Mod Podge, glue each digital-designed, cut-out coaster onto the top surface of your wooden coasters.
    5. Let the Mod Podge dry.
    6. Seal your coasters using a spray-on sealant. (Note: You’ll want to use the sealant in a ventilated area.)
    7. And voila! You now have fun coasters you’ll be proud to display in your living room.
